「西洋文學與醫學」之特色為強調通識教育博雅內涵的架構下所規畫之醫療人文課程,
本課程以文學詮釋作為出發點,透過深入閱讀、分析經典西洋文學作品中人物角色的身心靈
掙扎、所面臨之生命困境與對疾病的認知,作為學生可突破個人生命經驗之侷限,憑藉文學
場域中跨時空限制、跨地理疆界、跨文化之特性,尋得一可參照對應之座標軸,更精確理解
醫療場域內的人文關聯,進而發展對生命倫理議題之問題意識與自我思辨,以確立相關醫學
與人文議題之深邃價值觀。
課程規劃醫學與人文相互關聯之多元議題,包括:「文學與醫學概述」(Overview on
Literature and Medicine)、「醫病關係在文學中的再現形象」(Images of Doctors and Patients in
Literary Representations)、「醫學論述下的性別再思考」(Gender Reconsidered in Medical
Discourse) 、「藥物文化內涵:藥理學、醫學與社會集體認知觀點之變遷」(The Evolution
of Drug Use: Perspectives on Collective Social Perception, Pharmaceutical Medicine and Cultural
Change)、「想像、科學與倫理」(Imagination, Science and Ethics)以及「神經性退化疾病與
老年之照護倫理」(Neurodegenerative Diseases and the Ethics of Elderly Care)等。以上議題
涵蓋文學與醫學之匯流、文學作品中呈現之醫病關係、同理心之哲學思考、近代醫學或整個
生物醫學領域,皆會面臨的難題,諸如人類是否為了延續生命而跨越自然法則極限之倫理思
考及其兩難困境、高齡化社會所需關注之照護倫理等。

一、本課程聚焦於文學與醫學匯流之文本作品中的議題探討,在跨領域對話中,拓展學生視
野,促進醫學與健康照護專業領域的學生對於醫學人文價值內涵的體會理解,有助於全人式
教育的養成。
二、透過培養批判思考與分析能力,學生可學習到各經典文本與其歷史、社會及文化脈絡的
連結,並進而發展成可被應用於當代之入世淑世的社會關懷。
三、藉由訓練學生建構批判性思考的分析能力、問題意識的形成等,將有助於醫藥、護理、
健康照護相關專業的學生,發展可「帶著走」(transferable skills)的人文涵養、倫理關照能力
與態度,對學生日後擔任醫療臨床工作之職涯發展,至關重要。
